A TALE OF TWO CULTURES: Islam And The West

tale of two cultures font cover

COMING SOONbuyitnow

ISBN: 978-0-9824982-0-0

This unique book reveals an unpleasant truth: Islam                    and the west are destined to eternal conflict because the two cultures hold irreconcilable views on the purpose of human life itself. Knowing beyond doubt that the universe has a Creator who intends to judge each of us in the hereafter, Muslims seek, first and foremost, to maximize humanity’s prospects of attaining heaven and avoiding the fires of hell. In contrast, Westerners, increasingly secular and dubious about supernatural claims, are bent upon maximizing individual happiness and wellbeing in this life. That enormous clash of worldviews leads Muslims and Westerners to utter disagreement on every major issue today--freedom of expression, religious liberty, female sexuality, terrorism, and gay rights.

Terminal Justice

ISBN: 978-0-9825321-9-5

Suppose you could remove all consequences for your actions. What would you do to protect the innocent? How far would you go for justice?

What would it be like to take control of justice, doing whatever was necessary to get career criminals and sociopaths off the streets where our children walk? Then, at night, what would you tell yourself so you could sleep?

TERMINAL JUSTICE crosses a line most of us would never cross. It rips open our rawest emotions and lays them on the page, macabre yet familiar. It moves our darkest desires beyond anything we’d ever dream of doing and allows us to experience a borderless form of justice without risk.

TERMINAL JUSTICE is the story of highly trained but ordinary people who find themselves at a moment in life when they have nothing to lose by using their government training outside the law and following through on the impulses that sometimes surface in all of us.

It’s the story of an Assistant U.S. Attorney and seven federal agents who realize that no matter what they do, they won’t face life imprisonment or the death penalty. That realization triggers a desire to remedy the legal system’s weak and unfair decisions.

But justice is never clear cut, and it’s seldom easy. And in this instance, the feds are confident that they won’t face punishment because they won’t live long enough to go to trial.

Mormonism: A Life Under False Pretenses

buyitnowmormfntCOMING SOON

ISBN: 978-0-9825321-8-8

The fundamental difference that sets the Mormon Church apart from all truly Christian churches is the sinister and self-serving distortion of the very personality and character of the Lord Jesus Christ. For Mormonism to be true, Christ Himself must be corrupted into one who authorized horrible behaviour, thus rendering the past Mormon Prophets completely blameless concerning the motivations for their unspeakable actions.

Within the formal teachings of the Mormon Church, Jesus Christ Himself, and not the Mormon Prophets, is the author of polygamy, polyandry, and blood atonement. Under His direction alone, Joseph Smith Jr. was "commanded" to take some thirty wives, two as young as fourteen years of age. Mormons are instructed that it was the Lord, and no one else, who required Joseph to take the wives of eleven other men as his own (known as polyandry), as well as two sets of sisters and a mother and her daughter as his wives, while at the same time attempting to become president of the United States of America.

Brigham Young, as the living prophet of God, taught through "Divinely inspired revelation from the Lord Jesus Christ Himself, the core values of blood atonement. Reportedly under direction from the Lord Jesus Christ Himself, Brigham instructed that some sins of this world require the neck of the sinner to be slit from ear to ear so that the sinner's blood could atone for certain violations of Mormon doctrine. Mormons are taught that Brigham young also was commanded by the Lord to take fifty-five wives, including some previous wives of Joseph Smith.

Defense of these disgusting misrepresentations of the very nature and character of the Lord continues today within the walls of Mormon chapels and Mormon temples throughout the world. This book examines real-world examples of how these beliefs are covered up so that the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints might better hide among true believers in the compassionate Savior of all mankind, Christ Jesus. He and His holy name have been disgracefully used so that self-centered men might gain some measure of power, prestige, and perversion.

This book recounts the true-life experiences of a Mormon Bishop, who for thirty years was a High Priest, Elders Quorun, and a member of three High Counsels for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Mormons. He has participated in hundreds of Mormon Temple Endowments and witnessed firsthand the practices of ceremonial rituals in which the taking of human life was mimicked, all in the name of Jesus Christ.

The Well of Destiny

well of destiny 2ISBN: 978-0-9825321-5-7  Updated and revised version of an earlier novel.buyitnow

Dr. Judd Manson, disillusioned by the South, soured on marriage, returns to Mississippi to investigate a lethal disease outbreak. The disease, mosquito-carried encephalitis, suddenly emerges in late July in the southeastern corner of the State and health department officials scramble to contain the outbreak. The new form of Encephalitis is unique, making genetic engineering or bioterrorism real possibilities. The Centers for Disease Control in Ft. Collins send the 39 year-old Dr. Manson (a specialist in infectious disease outbreaks) to Mississippi to aid local Health Department officials in handling the outbreak. He hates going back to the South because he was deeply offended during adolescence by the rigid, prim and proper South and pressures to conform. During his investigation, Judd discovers that infectious disease outbreaks are bad enough by themselves, but immensely more serious when intentionally spread. He also learns while working the outbreak that more important than the disease itself is that life is really all about going home.

Seven Words of Life

7wordsbuyitnowISBN: 978-0-9825321-1-9

“What’s in a name?” To this question of Shakespeare we would have to answer that a name is a very important part of a person.

In the middle ages names were given special meanings. Occupations were often found in names, like Miller, Carpenter, Smith, Baker. Names therefore gave knowledge of that person.

In Biblical times names had significant meanings. The Israelites of old asked a similar question to that asked by Shakespeare. When God called Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt, Moses asked who shall I say sent me when they ask “What is His name?” God instructed Moses to tell them that “‘I AM’ has sent me to you” (Ex 3:13-14)

The name “I AM”, that God gives Himself is a title that signifies the eternity of God. The Hebrew word for I Am is in an “imperfect” tense, meaning  “I was”, “I am” and “I shall always be”.

Jesus declared himself many times to be the great I AM. All of these great sayings are to be found in John’s gospel except for the two recorded by the Apostle John in the book of Revelation. (Rev 1:8, 17)

These are the seven “I AM” saying is found in the Gospel John.

I am the bread of life in John 6:35.

I am the light of the world in John 8:12.

I am the door in John 10:9.

I am the good shepherd in John 10:11.

I am the way, the truth and the life in John 14:6.

I am the resurrection and the life in John 11:25-26.

I am the Vine in John 15:1.

What Jesus says about himself in these sayings gives further character to who the “I AM” is. By asserting “I AM” in John’s gospel Jesus showed how that mysterious name for God was amplified in His life and ministry. Every declaration is a further revelation of the character and nature of the eternal God.

Eight Signs of Power

8signsISBN: 978-0-9825321-4-0buyitnow

And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of His disciples which are not written in this book: (John 20:30)

Miracles – what do we mean by the word ‘miracles’?  Someone recovers from a serious illness - we call that a miracle.  We say it will be a miracle if I pass exams or pass my driving test.  We talk about the miracle of T.V. or the computer.  It’ll be a miracle if my pay or pension lasts me the month.

However, none of these gives the real meaning of the word ‘miracle’.  The word comes from the Latin verb mirari which means ‘to wonder’. So a miracle is something that moves us to wonder.

We might put it this way:  a miracle is an event in which God’s power makes a special entry into our lives.

In the gospels we get pictures of men and women whom others were powerless to help, but Jesus brought to their needs and diseases a power which no one else had.

But the New Testament frequently uses another word to describe Jesus’ miracles.  It called them semeia, which means ‘a sign’.  John uses the word seventeen times.  Jesus’ miracles http://ministriesoftheword.weebly.com/products.htmlwere not only works of power, they were also signs.

These signs show men something of the character, the nature and the heart of God.

But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through His name. (John 20:31)

A miracle was the invasion of men’s lives by the power of God.  But what did the power of God do?  It healed the sick, fed the hungry, brought joy to the mourner and life to the dead.

It thereby showed the love of God for men.  In any miracle of Jesus, we are meant to see not only the power of God, but the love of God.

Can we believe that the miracles of Jesus really happened?  Are the gospels stories really true?  Did those miracles really take place?

William Barclay states, ‘I am convinced that every miracle story in the New Testament goes back to the actual deed of Jesus and His disciples and that not one of them is just a fictitious story.

Angels In My Heart

front cover -2ISBN: 978-0-9824982-9-3

If anyone had told me when I graduated college that one day I would be writing a book about miscarriage, I would have thought they were crazy. Although I took a minor buyitnowconcentration in English as an undergraduate, I had no aspirations to be a writer. At the time I got married, I had heard of miscarriage, but assumed it was something rare that would never happen to me.  Little did I know how common it is, or how much I would come to know about it.

Each year, in the United States alone, nearly one million women experience the heartbreak of a miscarriage. An additional 26,000 families are faced with the trauma of a stillborn baby. The numbers are staggering, and yet, unless they know someone who has experienced this kind of a loss, most of these families feel very alone in their grief.

Every person's story is different, yet we all share common feelings and experiences as we try to come to terms with the death of our child. I don't profess to know all the answers—there is no magic formula which will suddenly make your world right again. The words I offer come merely from my own experience. But I hope, by sharing my journey with you, I can help with one small step of your healing.

 You are not alone.

“Enjoy this fun and slightly mischievous story of a very ‘ordinary’ young American couple who felt God call them to leave paying jobs, amazing friends, and a beautiful home in the United States and to become missionaries caring for kids at Rift Valley Academy in Kenya.”

--Lanny Arensen, International Director for African Inland Mission

“In an age where the Great Commission has become more talk than walk, Ryan Murphy has given us a gift.  In fresh prose, Murphy has put flesh on the bones of Christ’s commission.  Come learn.  Love.  Be inspired.”

--Harry Kraus, M.D., medical missionary and best-selling author of Breathing Grace: What You Need More Than Your Next Breath

“If you visualize a young Southern California couple with everything going for them—house, education, job, reputation, looks, humor, athleticism—you are thinking of the Murphys.  To see them move out as career missionaries has been a huge encouragement to me personally and to all who have watched their journey.”

--Brad Buser, missions pastor and New Tribes Mission church planter

"You will find the insights Ryan and Heather Murphy share in this book to be real and refreshing. If you want a very readable book on missions in Africa which deals with both the practical and the theoretical, look no further. You will enjoy this book."

--Dr. Ted Barnett, United States Director of Africa Inland Mission
